"Hello, Kettle? This is Pot. You're black." I suppose it's just a coincidence that the Iranians directed Hezbollah to capture the two IDF men just as Israeli president Moshe Katsav was getting embroiled in a sex scandal.
The war of words continues to escalate on the northern front while the action in Gaza takes a back seat. Israel seems to be diplomatically checkmated in Lebanon because of the Syrian/Iranian alliance which makes a forceful incursion into Lebanon and/or Syria nearly suicidal.
The modern nation state has been the unit of action in international politics since the Treaty of Westphalia in the mid 17th century. The industrial age enhanced the power of the nation state until it seemed invulnerable to challenge on a societal or psychological level.
